| Abstract | Objective: To compare outcome of treatment of acute otitis externa with 2.5% acetic acid and ofloxacin ear dropMethods: This study is a randomized control trial. In acetic acid group, 5% acetic acid from the market was diluted 1:1 with drinking water to 2.5% acetic acid. In ofloxacin ear drop group, using Tarivid? otic solution 0.3%. Patients in both groups were used same process of using ear drop and were followed up pain score, discharge in ear and ear canal swelling at 7, 14 and 21 days after treatment.Results: 108 patients were received 2.5% acetic acid and 109 patients were received ofloxacin ear drop. Mean age was 43.6 years. Female were more than male. Cure rate at 7,14 and 21 days of ofloxacinear drop group were 88.07%, 93.58% and 93.58% consecutively and acetic acid group were 89.94%, 94.47% and 95.40% consecutively.There were nostatistically significant different of curerate between groups. 79 patients (67.52%) that devided to 14 patients (12.73%) from ofloxacin ear drop group and 65 patients (59.1%) from acetic acid group had burning sensation in ear canal in first 3 day of using. But there were not have burning sensation in 7th day.Conclusion: 2.5% Acetic acid and ofloxacin ear drop have same efficiency for treatment acute otitis externa. But 2.5% Acetic acid can cause more burning sensation in first 3 days |
