| Abstract | Cervical cancer is the second most common female cancer in Thailand. The treatmentdepends on the stages of disease. Serum squamous cell carcinoma antigen (SCC-Ag) producesthrough squamous formation of cervical squamous epithelium and increased during theneoplastic transformation. However, it is not organ specifi. In healthy women, serum SCC-Agis found at a concentration of less than 1.9 ?g/L. The cervical cancer clinical utilities of serumSCC-Ag reported in the literatures comprised of the indicative of pelvic or paraaortic lymphnode metastases at the pretreatment evaluation period, the prediction of prognosis, the monitorthe treatment response and the detection of early recurrence. With the limitation in health careresources of Thailand, raising of serum SCC-Ag also reminds the physician about distantrecurrence of disease. Moreover, the detection of asymptomatic recurrence may be associatedwith prolonged survival. |
