| Abstract | Some physiological phenotypes responding to salt stress (9 dSm-1), shoot and root fresh weight, shoot and root dry weight, relative water content, % electrolyte leakage and salt injury score (SIS) were evaluated among 51 local Thai rice cultivars in comparison with 'Pokkali', the salt tolerant rice and 'IR29', the salt susceptible one after salt stress for 0, 3, and 6 days. Based on all data subjected to cluster analysis, 'Luang Pratahn', 'Jao Khao', 'Tawng Rahk Sai', 'Gon Gaew', 'Khiaw Hahng Mah', 'Mahk Nam', 'Khao Gon Jud', 'Man Wua', 'Jampah Jin', and 'Mahk Yom' rice were found to have salt tolerant level similar to 'Pokkali' rice with the higher biomass. These local Thai rice cultivars will be valuable resources for salt tolerant genes for breeding program in the future. |
