| Abstract | Dendrobium orchids were listed as conserved plant under the Plant Act B.E. 2518and Appendix II in CITES Convention as well. According to the both Regulations, it isneed to monitor and control of international trade to ensure that the population of thisgenus in the nature, are not impacted by that trade. Therefore, population survey ofDendrobium in distribution areas and monitor at border markets were studied. Most oforchid plants were traded in non-blooming plant, to facilitate the competent officers toregulate import and export. Dendrobium morphology was studied form specimens whichfound in nature, nurseries and disputed orchids during October, 2008 to September, 2009.The survey of Dendrobium from nature were found 45 species. At border markets 62species were found and 6 of them are rare and endangered species, as Dendrobiumalbosanguineum Lindl. & Paxton, Dendrobium chrysanthum Wall. ex Lindl., Dendrobiumfalconeri Hook., Dendrobium garettii Seidenf., Dendrobium peguanum Lindl. andDendrobium wardianum R.Warner. The study of Dendrobium morphology in non-bloomingplants found 10 groups of pseudobulb shapes which are used to identify Dendrobiumorchids. The group of pseudobulb areas follows; flat linear, flat/lateral compress, swollennodes/contricted node, cylindrical, clavatelike, ovate to globose, fusiform, pseudobulb like, square, and unique/distinct pseudobulb. |
