| Abstract | The study of using some grasses as the substrates for Pleurotus sp. cultivation was conducted at the Chiangrai Horticultural Research Centre in Morthem Thailand during June 1999 - June 2000. Three grasses including flute reed (Phragmites karka (Retz.) Trin. ex Steud. var karka), wild cane (Saccharum spontaneum Linn.) and tiger grass (Thysanolaena latifolia (Roxb. ex Horn.) Honda) were selected and chopped into small pieces, about 0.5 cm long. Substrates were then moisted and composted with urea, lime and magnesium sulphate before bagging. The study results showed that all selected grasses can be used as the substrates for Pleurotus sp. cultivation. Among them the composted flute reed gave the highest yield of Plerotus sp. |
