| Abstract | The objectives of this research were 1) to analyze the developmentof grammatical accuracy based upon the relationships of functions BetweenUnits of Meanings (B) and the relationships of forms of words Within Units ofMeanings (W) by applying Functional Sentence Analysis Strategy (FSA) inediting sentences to improve writing proficiency and 2) to analyze learners'attitude in the use of the FSA strategy in editing sentences. Research toolsinclude 1) four writing papers assigned every four-week period to 49 first-yearChulalongkorn University students in three sections enrolled in the firstsemester of the academic year 2014 in Experiential English I, and 2) a set ofquestionnaires enquiring students' attitude towards the use of the FSAstrategy in their writing. The data were collected and then analyzed by SPSSProgram using descriptive statistics, viz. means, standard deviations andinferential statistics, viz. Repeated Measure ANOVA and Chi-square. It wasfound that, on average, the gained scores of the students in the three groupsshowing their improvement in writing proficiency were significantly different atp = .05 (F= 5.41, df= 1, 30) Besides, on average, the students had high positiveattitude toward the use of the FSA in editing sentences (X=3.55, S.D.=0.89).Therefore, it is suggested that the FSA strategy be used for the students toimprove their writing proficiency. |
