| Abstract | In an attempt to enhance learners' autonomy andcreate awareness of their own learning process, keepinga vocabulary notebook can be regarded as one of themost commonly used cognitive strategies. A jargon book,a kind of vocabulary notebook, consists of specializedterms that are used for conveying hidden meaningsaccepted and understood in a specific field. Researchersdraw attention to the need for carrying out some studieson vocabulary notebooks to examine their effectivenessmore closely. Therefore, the present study investigatesthe practices and perceptions of pre-service Englishlanguage teachers on the strategy of keeping a jargonbook. Data were collected through a semi-structuredinterview, an open-ended questionnaire and focus-groupinterviews. The findings indicate that most of theparticipants exhibit positive attitudes towards thestrategy of keeping a jargon book. The present studyimplies that the strategy of keeping a vocabularynotebook can be incorporated to the classes of pre-service English language teachers in order to make themfamiliar with the specialized terms found in the field ofEnglish language teacher education. |
