| Abstract | This action research project sought to investigatethe role of explicit citation vocabulary instruction in thelearning of citation style guidelines for an English forAcademic Purposes (EAP) writing course at an Englishmediumuniversity in Northern Thailand. Theparticipants consisted of 120 undergraduate studentsenrolled in the EAP writing class who were divided intoan experimental group and a control group. The classincluded a step-by-step essay writing assignment thatincluded source selection and use of quoted materialfrom sources. Participants in the experimental groupwere exposed to a multi-week treatment in which citationvocabulary terms were reviewed in subsequent lessons.All participants were assessed through a citation quizand the citation part-score on the rubric for the finaldraft of an essay. Results of the study were inconclusiveabout the effectiveness of a vocabulary approach onparticipants' ability to apply knowledge of citation style.Further research is needed on this topic. |
