| Abstract | This research has an objective to study the communities' ability to cope with and recover from catastrophic flooding in the Central and Northern Thailand by applying quantitative research methods. The study area consists of 2 communities in Ayutthaya (Pratuchin and Ban PhuKhao Thong community), and 2 communities in Nan (Phumin - Tha Li, and Ban Huai Kang - Dong Pasak). The researchers have collected data from total 342 households to measure the communities' ability on how they cope with and recover from catastrophic flooding. In term of data analysis, the researchers have used the statistical tools including frequency, percentage, average, standard deviation, and level of resilience. The study result has shown that the communities have the ability to cope with and recover from the flood disaster in the area of Natural, Physical and Institutional at low level. In the area of Social, it has been rated Low - Moderate. As the area of Economic, and Capital Community have been rated moderate - high. Based on the study result, the researchers have recommendations as guidance for the community to cope with and recover from catastrophic flooding in consistency with the context of community as follows: the community should prepare the integrated plan for response measure and recovery from catastrophic flooding. The priority should be given to human resource development, especially children and youths, and the knowledge and skills on how to deal with the disaster properly. |
