| Abstract | The purposes of this study were to examine public saving behavior and to investigate social and economic factors correlating to their saving behavior. The subjects participating in this study were 365 residents, aged 18-60, living in Ban Serd Sub-district, Panusnikom District, Chon Buri Province. They were recruited by a simple random sampling technique. The instrument used to collect the data was a questionnaire. The statistical tests included frequency, and percentage. To test the hypotheses, Chi-Square was operated. The results of the study were as follows: (1) It was shown that the majority of the subjects saved less than 1,000 baht on a monthly basis. They also saved in a form of purchasing jewelry or other ornaments. Depositing their money with commercial banks was another form of their saving. In addition, saving money in a form of money-sharing was commonly practiced among the subjects. The main reason for saving was for future use, especially for urgent and immediate needs. (2) Based on the test of hypotheses, it was shown that the variables in relation to the uncertainty of income, political risk, government policies, and instability of internal economy were statistically correlated with the subjects' saving behavior at a significant level of 0.05. |
