| Abstract | This editorial reads the articles and reviews in this issue through the heuristic of partial visibility, that is, the condition under which histories, identities, ecological relations, public interpretations, professional labour and technological outputs become intelligible through selective documentary, linguistic, institutional and technical arrangements. The contributions do not support a single explanatory model. Read together, however, they show that visibility is neither simple presence nor an unqualified good. It can enable knowledge, recognition and access while also simplifying interpretation, exposing subjects, amplifying prominence and obscuring labour or uncertainty. Across these cases, visibility does not eliminate interpretive limits or settle the authority of a claim. The editorial therefore argues that partial visibility calls for accountable judgement. Claims should remain answerable to evidence, interpretive position, methodological limits and consequences. It concludes by relating this responsibility to the defence of the humanities and to the role of New Voices in Translation Studies. |
