| Abstract | The following communication was presented in a plenary talk by Gilles Delouche, professor emeritus and guest of honor, at theinternational conference "Carrefours Interculturels", held at INALCO,Paris, on November 20, 2018; the symposium was jointly organized by ATPF (Thai Association of French Teachers), ThammasatUniversity, and INALCO. The organizers of the conference decided to publish the content of the plenary talk not in theproceedings of the conference, but in the journal of the faculty of liberal arts at Thammasat University (Journal of Liberal Arts).Following the untimely death of Prof. Delouche, and before thepublication of this article, the text has been reread and slightly annotated by us for this edition. In this article, Prof. Delouche councilsstudents, colleagues, and other French-speaking translators on the Thai (or Siamese) language.
