| Abstract | Maintenance workforce evaluation has recently received an increased attention in industries due to the significant influence it has on successful manufacturing. Great efforts, from the viewpoints of theory and practice have been taken in the development of the subject. However, its optimisation when considering uncertainties is not addressed adequately in literature. According to this requirement, a novel approach is contributed, providing an understanding for the uncertainties while combining factors for workforce size determination using an integrated Taguchi-fuzzy technique. The feasibility of a fuzzy maintenance workforce model as an expert tool was investigated and the results were validated with a literature model. The study observed that the fuzzy workforce prediction and optimisation tool could be used to avoid complex mathematical expressions for workforce size prediction by the maintenance manager. Compared to ARIMA, the model competes with ARIMA results and can be developed easily by maintenance mangers. |
