| Abstract | Lanchester’s freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium lanchesteri), is an economically important aquatic species with high market demand. This study aimed to enhance production efficiency by investigating the effects of dietary vitamin E supplementation at concentrations of 0, 100, and 200 mg/100 g of diet on growth performance and reproductive development efficiency. The results indicated that growth performance, survival rates, rate of oocyte development, and number of eggs did not differ significantly among treatments (p>0.05). However, ovarian histological examination revealed significant differences; the groups supplemented with 100 and 200 mg vitamin E/100 g of diet exhibited 7 and 6 germ cell developmental stages, respectively, whereas the control group without dietary vitamin E supplementation showed only 5 out of the 8 stages. These findings indicate that vitamin E supplementation positively influences the reproductive system by stimulating continuous ovarian development, thereby enhancing the potential for multiple spawning. Consequently, it can be concluded that dietary vitamin E supplementation at 100 mg/100 g of diet is the optimal level for promoting reproductive development efficiency in M. lanchesteri. Furthermore, to enhance the efficiency of commercial feed formulations for freshwater prawn culture in terms of both growth and reproductive performance, additional studies on the combined effects of vitamin E and other nutrients are recommended to facilitate practical application. |
