Abstract The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of flavanone (FVA) supplementation in the diet of weanling pigs on growth performance, oxidative stress, and inflammatory status. A total of 180 weanling pigs (Landrace ร Large White ร Duroc) at 4 weeks of age with an initial body weight ranging from 6 to 7 kg were used and randomly assigned into 3 dietary treatments with 6 replicates per treatment with 10 piglets each (5 castrated males and 5 females). The experimental design was a completely randomized design (CRD). The 3 dietary treatments were a basal diet (control) and a control supplemented with 0.25 and 0.5 g/kg FVA, respectively. Feed and water were provided ad libitum throughout the experiment. The supplementation of FVA at 0.25 and 0.50 g/kg improved BW, ADG, and FCR (P<0.05) of weanling pigs during the 4-6 weeks of age but not the 7-9 weeks of age (P>0.05). Consequently, the supplementation of FVA improved BW, ADG, and FCR (P<0.05) throughout the experimental period (4โ"9 weeks). In the serum of weanling pigs at 6 and 9 weeks, the supplementation of FVA significantly decreased the MDA and IL-6 levels (P<0.05) but had no significant effect (P>0.05) on SOD, GPx, TNF-ฮฑ and IL-10. Therefore, the supplementation of FVA at 0.25 and 0.50 g/kg can alleviate oxidative stress and the inflammatory response, which could lead to an improvement in the gut health and growth performance of weanling pigs.
