| Abstract | This study's purpose was to compare superstitious rituals between male and female college athletes. The subjects were 270 athletes (163 males and 107 females) these athletes aged from 18 to 25 years. The superstitious rituals questionnaire-Thai version consisted of 45 items for seven factors: clothing and appearance, fetish, pre-game, game/meet, team rituals, prayer, and coach. They used programs R version 4.2.1 and R Studio Desktop to analyze data. Differences between gender tested by using a one-way multivariate analysis of variance. Other descriptive statistics include means, standard deviations, frequency, and percentage. Reliability calculates Cronbach's alpha, achieving an overall value was 0.95. Results showed that the superstitious rituals between gender, the male athletes had significantly higher levels of clothing and appearance factor than the female athletes (0.918 + 0.87 and 0.68 + 0.58 respectively) with small effect (η2 = 0.022, p = 0.015) according to the male athletes had significantly higher levels of competition factors than the female athletes (2.059 + 1.21 and 1.727 + 1.06 respectively, with small effect (η2 = 0.015, p = 0.042). However, there was no difference in fetish, pre-game, team rituals, prayer, and coach factors between groups (P > 0.05) |
