| Abstract | The objectives of this comparative descriptive research were to study ethical behaviors and compare ethical behaviors among the 1st to 4th year of nursing students at School of Nursing, Rangsit university. The sample was composed of 245 nursing students during the first semester of the academic year 2020 applying stratified random sampling. The research instruments included personal data and ethical behaviors questionnaire. This research instruments were verified by research expert and got reliability of Cronbach’s alpha coefficient .88. Descriptive statistics which consisted of frequency, percentage, standard deviation and Kruskal – Wallis H test and Mann Whitney U test were used to analyze data. The research results were as follows: 1. The total mean score of ethical behaviors among nursing students were 3.02-5.59 (mean 4.77, S.D.= .775). This mean score was on the fifth post-conventional level of the social contract and legal orientation. 2. The highest mean score of ethical behaviors aspects presented on the level sixth of ethical reasoning level; the universal-ethical principle orientation, as follows: 1) respect rights, value, different and human dignity aspect (mean=5.59) and 2) respect on academic performance rights and intellectual copy rights aspect (mean=5.40). The second highest mean score of ethical behaviors aspects showed on the fifth level of ethical reasoning; the social contract, legalistic orientation, as follows: 1) be honest aspect (mean= 4.93), 2) good nursing professional attitude aspect (mean= 4.91), 3) awareness of professional value and nurses’ rights aspect (mean=4.83), 4) responsibility aspect (mean=4.80) and, 5) discipline aspect (mean=4.70). However, Public mind and social concern aspect represented on the third level of ethical reasoning, was the interpersonal concordance orientation (mean =3.02). 3. The highest mean scores of ethical behaviors compared among 4 years level of nursing students were respectively 1) the fourth year, 2) the first year, 3) the second year, and 4) the third year of nursing students (mean= 4.80; 4.78; 4.77; 4.74 respectively). All of the nursing students were on the fifth level of ethical reasoning of the social contract, legalistic orientation. However, there were not different in statistical test (p = .947). 4. The comparison results of ethical behaviors among nursing students on the first year to the fourth year found that 1) Discipline aspect 2) Be honest aspect 3) Public mind and social concern aspect 4) Respect rights, value, different and human dignity aspect 5) Awareness of professional value and nurses’ rights aspect and 6) Respect on academic performance rights and intellectual copy rights aspect were not different. (p = .801, p = .377, p = .783, p = .556, p = .378, p = .161, respectively). However, responsibility aspect and good nursing professional attitude aspect were significantly different (p= .011, p = .021, respectively). For comparison among nursing students, the first year had significantly higher responsibility aspect than the third year (p = .003), and the fourth year had significantly higher responsibility aspect than the third year (p = .008). Also, the good nursing professional attitude aspect, the first year had significantly higher than the third year and the fourth year (p = .018, p = .009 respectively). For research recommendations, this study should be adjusted both of learning processes and the extra-curriculum activities for enhancing public mind and social concern aspect. The next research project should continuously monitor ethical behaviors among nursing students to maintain and develop the sustainable ethical behaviors. |
