Abstract The purposes of this classroom action research were 1) to analyze the characteristics of active learning with online classroom for enhancing student teachers’ learning engagement and classroom action research skills, 2) to study student teachers’ learning engagement after using active learning with online classroom, and 3) to compare student teachers’ classroom action research skills before and after using active learning with online classroom. Data were collected from 18 senior undergraduate student teachers who enrolled in Classroom Action Research course. The research instruments were 1) post lesson reports, 2) log files of online classroom, 3) classroom observation form, 4) classroom action research skills testing, and 5) classroom action research assessments form. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics and qualitative content analysis. The results indicated that: 1) characteristics of active learning with online classroom were brainstorming activity via posts, research concept and process learnings, learning exchange via forums, and learning classroom action research by doing. 2) the analysis of log data shown that student teachers are properly determined and concentrate on their learning even though it is an online learning, and they were cooperative and have high quantity of knowledge exchange while participating activities. 3) for comparing student teachers’ classroom action research skills, the average posttest score (84.07 %) after obtaining the Active learning with online classroom was obviously higher than the average pretest score (62.22 %). Moreover, the classroom action research report assessments showed that it helps student teachers to have appropriate skills for the research especially critical thinking, creative thinking, and communication skill.
