| Abstract | This research attempts to study the perceived readiness and needs of Undergraduate Students at College of Politics and Governance in developing their English skills under the liberalization of the ASEAN Economic Community in 4 different skills: 1) listening skill; 2) speaking skill; 3) reading skill; and 4) writing skill from compilation of 365 samples. A 5-level scale questionnaire was utilized in this research. The data were analyzed by using Percentage, Percentages, Mean, Standard Deviation, and Required Modified Priority Needs Index (PNI Modified). The research has found that in perceived readiness and needs of Undergraduate students of College of Politics and Governance in developing their English skills under the liberalization of the ASEAN Economic Community in 4 different skills, the overall outcome of students’ readiness was at a moderate level (x̄ = 2.83, S.D. = 0.71) and students’ needs were at a high level (x̄ = 3.83, S.D. = 0.90). The overall analysis outcome in prioritizing the needs assessment (PNI Modified = 0.35) from the highest to the lowest is as follows: writing skill (PNI Modified = 0.45), reading skill (PNI Modified = 0.38), speaking skill (PNI Modified = 0.32), and listening skill (PNI Modified = 0.27). Suggestions for further research 1) Research in students who have already graduated To compare data And to improve the development of current English skills 2) Research in the use of English through various communication channels in daily life such as electronic media and websites. 3) Study qualitative research to make data analysis more efficient. |
