| Abstract | Objectives: Aimed to study 1) Characteristics of the principles of Wasatiyyah in Islam, and 2) Application of the principles of Wasatiyyah in the curriculum of the Bachelor of Arts Program in Islamic Studies and Islamic Law, Faculty of Islamic Sciences.Methodology: This study employed a qualitative approach that was documentary study through the analysis of primary sources that included tafsir works by Ibn Kathir, Ibn Al-Arabi, As-Shanqity, and At-Tabari, as well as hadith commentaries by Ibn Hajar (on Al-Bukhari) and Annawawi (on Muslim), and the text of At-Tahawiyah. Additional data were collected from unstructured interviews with selected experts in Wasatiyyah, by purposive sampling method.Findings: Wasatiyyah was found to be a significant principle in Islam showing about moderation and balance. Wasaṭīyyah consisted of 5 important characteristics. 1) Goodness and nobility 2) Accuracy. 3) Justice and wisdom 4) Convenience and ease of practice 5) Neutrality and balance. Such Wasatiyyah principles had been applied in the Curriculum of the Bachelor of Arts degree, Islamic Studies and Islamic Law, Faculty of Islamic Sciences. Its application was in PLO 7 and PLO 8.Application of Findings: The qualities of Wasatiyyah could be applied in various curricula, departments, and organizations. Besides that, it could be used in teaching and learning to achieve PLOs and CLOs. |
