| Abstract | Masseter spasm is an important sign in anesthesia because it introduces difficulty inairway management. It may be the first sign of malignant hyperthermia which is fatal in mostcases. The trigger agents of malignant hyperthermia are succinylcholine and volatile anestheticagents. This is a case report of an 8-year-old boy with camptodactyly of left little finger. He hadundergone soft tissue release with K-wire fixation. After induction with 50%N2O in Oxygen andSevoflurane, succinylcholine was given for intubation. After that the anesthesiologist found thatmasseter muscle was rigid and could not open his mouth. Intubation was successfully done byusing non-depolarizing muscle relaxant (atracurium). The patient had uneventful anesthesia andoperation after intubation. |
