| Abstract | patients admitted at Vajira hospital in gynecologic ward were studied. There were 207 patients with leiomyoma uteri. The prevalence of leiomyoma uteri was 10.43% of all gynecologic patients admitted, or 14.60% of the performed gynecologic operations. Most of the petients were between 40-49 years of age(56.52%). 27.05% of patients were unmarried and 15.46% of married patients were nulliparous. The most common presentation was abnormal uterine bleeding(33.77%). The pre- operative diagnnsis was correct in 75.36%. The most common type of leiomyoma uteri was intramural (49.28%), but the type that mainly caused abnormal uterine bleeding was submucous type (87.50%). The other associated pathologic findings were adenomyosis(14.91%) and endometriosis (13.16%). Total abdominal hysterectomy was performed in 90.34% of patients and myomectomy only in 8.21% of patients. The operative compilcations were rare. Febrile morbidity was the most common finding (24.54%). In most cases, the patients stayed in the hospital 1-2 pre-operative days (68.12%) and 7-9 postoperative days (78.74%). There wasno operative death in this study. |
