| Abstract | This paper studies the urban transition characteristic between heritage buildings and fisherman villages in George Town, Penang. This study has been done by analyzing the five urban design elements by Kevin Lynch (1960), with experiencing the site through a visit, and observation on site, also with studies of literature reviews from publishing journal, articles, and online resources. This study shows that the hierarchy of urban design elements perceived by the observer, of the colonial and traditional in the case study site are noticeable although they may differ in appearance from one another. Studies concluded the hierarchy among five urban design elements found are district and edges defined by the presence of local culture which influence the development of modern urban and tourism in George Town, Penang. |
