Abstract In the 21st century, globalization has accelerated the homogenization of fashion aesthetics, leading to a renewed search for authentic identity expression. Against this backdrop, craft art has re-emerged as a symbolic and conceptual medium in contemporary fashion design. This study investigates the role of craft art in shaping fashion identity, with particular attention to its cultural, aesthetic, and symbolic dimensions.Adopting a qualitative research approach, the study employs content analysis of four sustainable fashion brands Stella McCartney, BODE, Maiyet, and Lemlem- supported by interdisciplinary insights from identity theory, cultural fashion theory, and craft scholarship. Data sources include brand archives, scholarly literature, and fashion media. The analysis focuses on three dimensions: form ( craft techniques and materiality) , concept ( designer intentions and narratives), and cultural meaning (symbolic values and identity expressions). The findings reveal three major themes: (1) craft as a symbolic medium for constructing both individual and collective identities; ( 2) the hybridization of traditional techniques with contemporary values such as sustainability, ethics, and cultural innovation; and (3)the amplification of cultural diversity and marginalized voices through craft-based fashion. These insights demonstrate that craft functions not only as a technical practice, but as a semiotic system for articulating meaning, negotiating cultural identities, and engaging in global fashion discourse. This study contributes to fashion scholarship by reframing craft as a cultural mechanism of identity construction, offering a theoretical framework for understanding its role as a symbolic resource and counter-hegemonic practice. Practically, it highlights the potential of craft-informed design to advance sustainable, ethical, and inclusive fashion futures. While limited by its focus on four case studies, the research underscores the transformative role of craft art in reimagining fashion-not merely as a commodity of consumption, but as a cultural and ethical practice in the 21st century.
