| Abstract | Cost effective and environmentally acceptable management and disposal of solid waste is needed in modern society. Solid waste can be an important renewable energy resource. The present paper focuses on an integrated waste management and power generation for Chiang Mai, Thailand. Using realistic estimates of waste quantity and composition, waste-to-energy conversion plant using refuse-derived fuel with appropriate incineration technology was proposed. An economic feasibility survey has been performed to evaluate benefits of the project and to attract potential investors in the future. Capacity analysis suggested that a project with power generation capacity up to three MW can be developed and such a project is economically feasible with tolerance to fluctuation in capital cost, tipping fee and recycled material price. |
