| Abstract | The objectives of this study were 1) review related literature, attitudes, theories, and laws on environmental management, 2) study specific environmental problems unique to Rajabhat Universities, 3) investigate and analyze existing environmental management formats, 4) create a model of a successful environmental management plan. The study was mixed method qualitative and quantitative research. The instruments used in qualitative research were the following: documentary research, in-depth interviews, and participatory design. The instruments used in the quantitative research method were 1) current problems and policies with environmental issues at the university, 2) attitudes, theories, and principals toward environmental management, 3) ways of managing the environment with a view toward becoming green universities, and 4) laws and rules of management. Participants were the presidents, lecturers, and leaders from local communities. The area of study was eight Rajabhat Universities from different regions. The results, registered in order of importance, show that the universities are faced with meaningful environmental issues: garbage disposal, polluted water, electrical power pollution, and air pollution problems. The issues point directly at the university and the community. The recommended format for environmental management that would lead to green university status includes three steps; 1) defining strategies, policies, and plans, 2) processing, and 3) assessing and developing environmental management. |
