Abstract Teaching and learning in the 21st century is heavily influenced by the diverse disciplines and advancements of information technology. It is the nature of learners to be sensitive to information and change. Teachers in the 21st century need to adjust their educational ideas. They should change their mindset, and the practices they use, as well as assess learning to respond to the development of educational quality in the age of competition. The traditional ways of teaching may not answer the modern contexts. This article aims to present the concept of teacher self-development that can be applied to enhance teacher quality. Teachers in the 21st century must develop innovative teaching by incorporating technology into appropriate contents and instruction.
