Abstract Porous polymers have evolved as an exciting platform for diverse biomedical applications and have provided essential technical support to industries related to pharmaceutical and biomedical engineering. The constantly expanding toolbox of polymerization reactions is continuously supplying new methods applicable for synthesizing macromolecules and providing novel macromolecular architectures. Porous polymers, both from natural and synthetic origins, have unique physicochemical properties that make them ideal for drug delivery, tissue engineering, wound healing, etc. The current review aims to investigate the various types of porous polymers for potential biomedical applications and evaluate their contributions to the various innovations made in the field of application.
