| Abstract | Family structure is very important on determining individual's welfare outcome, not only both cognitive skills and emotional skills, but also negative bad behaviors of children in a long term. Based on the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) conducted in 2009 and 2012 in Thailand, this paper adopts a simple econometrics technique and quantifies impacts of family structure on cognitive skills among Thai students. The findings reveal that family structure, especially for those living with both father and mother, affect better cognitive skills of Thai students comparing to those who do not live with parents. Strengthening family structure should be a necessary policy to promote this positive outcome. |
