| Abstract | Curcumin is one of the major components of Curcuma longa that has been reported to antiinflammation,antioxidants, and anti-bacterial, especially Staphylococcus aureus. This study examines theanti-inflammatory and antioxidant effect of Curcumin against bacterial infection on rabbit skin. Fifteen rabbitswere randomly divided into five groups as follows: un-infection and un-treatment with scarification, infectionwithout treatment, treatments with 5% and 10% Curcuma longa creams and Tetracycline cream. Skin lesion of the rabbits was monitored for a week. The activities of antioxidant enzyme, level of total glutathione and lipidperoxidationwere examined to finally detect the oxidative stress. This study found that the activities ofantioxidant systems and the level of lipid peroxidation was significantly reduced when we treated withCurcuma longa cream while level of total glutathione were gradually increased in skin rabbit. 10% Curcumalonga cream is the most effective. These findings imply that the effort of developing Curcumin into atherapeutic antibacterial skin and anti-resistant agent is reasonable. |
