| Abstract | Objectives: To study needs assessments for clinical risk management and to develop a clinical risk management system model of registered nurses working in patient wards. Methods: This study was of mixed methodology, consisting of qualitative and quantitative research. The samples consisted of 242 registered nurses who had been working at Faculty of Medicine Vajira Hospital, Navamindradhiraj University. Data were collected using a questionnaire, developed for measuring the quality of clinical risk management system in accordance with the standards of inpatient services, and a semi-structured interview between September 2016 and March 2017. Statistics applied for data analysis consisted of frequency, percentage, minimum, maximum, mean, Modified Priority Needs Index (PNIModified) and content analysis. Results: Registered nurses were needs assessed for knowledge, practice and participation for the development of a clinical risk management system at Faculty of Medicine Vajira Hospital, Navamindradhiraj University. Satisfaction with the process of the clinical risk management system was not needs assessed. The development of a clinical risk management system model should consist of: 1) the knowledge individuals are required to learn; 2) the development of department personnel in knowledge, practical skills and participation in clinical risk management; and 3) a concrete risk management policy within an organization. Conclusion: The knowledge, practice and participation of registered nurses were needs assessed to develop a clinical risk management system. Problems and obstacles to development have been found at personnel and system level. Therefore, solutions and development need to develop at the individual, department and organization level. |
