| Abstract | Background: The longer lifespan of people in Thailand, The more patients which diagnosis of Osteoarthritis (OA) knee. Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is widely proved that can improve quality of life. The comparison overall costs between staged and simultaneous bilateral TKA can help the public health economically for patients, hospitals, nation. There are few studies comparing the overall cost of staged and simultaneous bilateral TKA in Thailand. Methods: The database of patients ICD10 code 87.54 since1 January 2014- 31 December 2014 was searched, 176 patients. Total medical costs 64 patients were included to these study, 49 patients who received staged bilateral TKA were compared with 15 patients who received simultaneous bilateral TKA. Results: Most of categories of medical cost were significant lower in the simultaneous TKA group. (mean total cost was 54524 baht in simultaneous bilateral TKA and 63115 baht in staged TKA; p value = 0.0118) Conclusions: The simultaneous bilateral TKA |
