| Abstract | Cytogenetic characterization of barramundi (Lates calcarifer) was performed by conventional Giemsa staining, C-banding, and DAPI staining. Diploid chromosome number was 48, comprising 23 pairs of acrocentrics and 1 pair of metacentric. C-positive heterochromatin blocks were found at the centromeric or the telomeric regions of some acrocentric chromosomes. However, no any regions of chromosome were intensely stained with fluorescence DAPI dye, suggesting that heterochromatin of L. calcarifer did not contain extraordinary AT-rich repetitive sequences. |
