| Abstract | Epigenetic refer to changes of gene expression without any change of the underlying DNA sequences. There are various mechanisms that plants utilize to control gene expression. The main regulation mechanisms are DNA methylation, histone modifications such as histone methylation, histone acetylation and changes of chromatin structure or chromatin remodeling. The alteration of gene expression influences plant growth, development and reproduction. In this review, regulation of gene expression via main epigenetic mechanisms and proteins involved in the epigenetic regulation will be described. |
