| Abstract | Stem and root rot diseases were reported on cassava in Thailand. This study was conducted to identify the causal agents of cassava stem and root rot, occurred in Muak Lek district, Saraburi province; Khon Buri, Soeng Sang and Pak Chong districts, NakhonRatchasima province and Aranyaprathet district, Sa Kaeo province. Twenty seven stem androot rot specimens were collected from reported plantations from April 2015 to September2016. The stem and root rot symptoms were classified into four groups namely, stem androot rot, dried root rot, black root rot and root rot. The identification of causal agent ofstem and root rot disease was based on its morphological characteristics and moleculardata of ITS region. The ML phylogenetic reconstruction showed that the causal agent, ofstem and root rot disease was Phytophthora melonis. On the other hand identificationresults of the causal agents of dried root rot, black root rot and root rot diseases based onmorphological data showed that they were Sclerotium rolfsii, Neoscytalidium dimidiatum andFusarium sp., respectively. The above mentioned fungi isolated from four symptoms hadbeen confirmed of their pathogenicity to cassava by Koch's postulates procedure. Theisolated Phytophthora melonis, S. rolfsii, N. dimidiatum and Fusarium sp. were inoculated onto cassava seedlings. It was found that the cassava seedlings inoculated with P. melonis,S. rolfsii, N. dimidiatum showed disease symptoms after 15 days of inoculation. However, cassava seedling inoculated with Fusarium sp. showed no symptom. We concluded thatP. melonis, S. rolfsii and N. dimidiatum were the causal agents of stem and root rot, driedroot rot and black root rot, respectively. |
