Abstract The objective of this study was to determine the effects of seed quality and waterlogging duration on seed germination and vigour of two waxy corn varieties. The experiment was conducted at the Department of Agricultural Science, Faculty of Science and Technology, Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya Rajabhat University during January to November 2006. It was designed as 2x3x4 Factorial in CRD with 3 replications; two waxy corn varieties namely Sumlee and Ban Koh as the first factor, three corn seed qualities namely high, medium and low, as the second factor and the third factor was four waterlogging duration 1 cm above soil surface at for 0 (control treatment), 6, 18, and 24 hours. Seed germination, speed of germination index, shoot length and dry weight of seedling were recorded. The results showed that the seed germination of the Sumlee variety was 64% which was significantly different from Ban Koh variety (53%). The seed vigour in term of shoot length and seedling dry weight also showed significantly different between Sumlee and Ban Koh varieties. The levels of high seed quality were significantly different from the medium and low quality seed. The levels of high seed quality produced the germination at 76%, whereas seed germination of medium and low seed quality produced only 64% and 35.5% respectively. For waterlog-ging duration for 6, 18, and 24 hours after seeding, produced lower seed germination and seed vigour than the controlled treatment. The interaction of varieties x seed quality levels varieties x water logging duration, seed quality levels x waterlogging duration and varieties x seed quality levels x water logging duration were not found in seed germination and vigour characteristics. Therefore the planting of waxy corn for waterlogging conditions in Ban Koh village was obtained from Sumlee variety with the levels of seed quality at high and medium quality.
