Abstract A study of the potential of vegetable soybean productionfor consumption in lower Southern Thailand aimed at selecting suitable varieties, spacing, plant population densities and fertilizer application. the trials were conducted at the Randomized Complete Block Design in the areas of Songkhal, Satoon and Naratiwat Provinces during December 1995-April 1998. Five varieties of vegeatable soybean were tested to analyze variances of 12 characters. The study found that 9 characters were significantly different. Kampangsean 292 had yjr nrdy ,rsm vjstsvyrtd om yjr sbrtshr [;smy jrohjy. number of branches/plant. The average yield, weighed including stalks and pods, fresh pods without stalks weighed and weight per 100 seeds. The seconds best was the Chiangmai 1 variety.rn As to the suitable space and plant population densities for Kampangsean 292 and Chiangmai 1 in the two areas trieal, it was found that between 26,664-53,328 plants/rai or at space in centimeters 60x20x2 , 60x10x2, 50x25x3, 50x20x3 and 50x20x2 showed no difference in yield. The trial at space 60x10x2 produced the highest yield of fresh pods without stalks weighed. For fertilizer application, the study found that the application of chemical fertilizer 15-15-15 at 100 kg/rai together with urea at 25 and50 kg/rai showed no different yield weighed with fresh pods and stalks or fresh pods excluding stalk between 2 plots trial. Increasing rate of fertilizdr 15-15-15 from 50 kg/rai to 100 kg/rai could increase yield weighed of fresh pods both with stalks and without stalks. Application of fertilizer 13-13-21 at 50 kg/rai with urea at 50 kg/rai showed the tendency of lower fresh pods weight with stalk and without stalk and seeds weight than when 15-15-15 was applied at 100 kg/rai with urea between 25-50 kg/rai
