Abstract Keggin-type heteropolyoxometalates have been used as catalysts for the oxidation of benzylic alcohols and secondary alcohols to the corresponding carbonyl compounds using environment-friendly H2 O2 as oxidant at room temperature. The catalysts used in this study exhibit high selectivity in the oxidation of alcohols with no over-oxidation and formationof carboxylic acids. For vanadium(V)-substituted heteropolyoxometalates [Hx-2PVx W12-xO40] 5- (x = 4 and 6), the catalytic activity decreased with the increase in number of vanadium atoms in the catalyst.
