| Abstract | The objective of this article is to evaluate the 20-year Development Plan for Bangkok Metropolis whether it is complied with sustainable city concept. Ten key dimensions for eco city development (Jeffrey R Kenworthy, 2006) are used as an evaluation framework. The study found that Bangkok Metropolis Development Plan fully complied with using ecological technologies for water and waste management, but there is still lack of waste reduction and separation. In addition, this plan partly complied with a debate and decide process and the integration of social, economic, and environmental for urban planning. However, there are still rooms for improvement with compact and mixed-use urban form, natural environment, mass transportation, public realm, the proportion of employment and residential growth, the physical and urban design, and economic growth. This study recommends controlling urban sprawl and maximizing the city space utilization by providing more quality green space and public realm for various activities. Mass transportation and the physical structure such as an alley need to be improved in order to be safe, convenient, and accessible for everybody. The study also suggests providing the additional residence for low-income earners and promoting economic and employment growth through cultural tourism. |
