| Abstract | This article aimed to study the meaning and importance of responsibility and respect regarded as required characteristics of dual vocational students and causal factors affecting responsibility and respect of dual vocational student. The research methodology used was document analysis. The findings revealed that the responsibility means being aware and performing duties with commitment; determination; perseverance and carefulness for oneself and society. This includes working together with others in order to achieve the goal as well as accepting both advantage and disadvantage actions to improve the performance of duties by not shifting one's own obligations to others. Responsibility can be categorized into three levels: 1) to yourself, 2) to the public or close people and 3) to the promise and universal ideals. Responsibility is vital to individuals; society and the nation for developing individuals; societies and nations to progress and peace. Respect means accepting and recognizing the value of one's own goodness of others'; of human beings' and of universal things. Respect can be expressed with humbleness and gentleness in front and behind by not offending and not violating the rights of others. Respect can be divided into three levels: 1) to yourself, 2) to the public or close people and 3) to the promise and universal ideals. Respect is important to individuals; society and humankind both living and non-living things. It makes individuals and societies to live together in peace and becomes successful. The factors affecting the responsibility and respect are three groups of casual factors. Group 1: Social situation consists of 4 variables including the observation of close people; parenting; support from the school and the school atmosphere. Group 2: The original psychological characteristic consists of 3 variables including moral reasoning; internal locus of control (trait) and the future orientation and self-control. Group 3: psychological characteristics according to the situation consist of 2 variables: attitude towards responsibility and respect and internal locus (state) of responsibility and respect. The findings of this study create a framework for the further research and development. |
