Theparticipants were the academics and students in EFLdepartments at six state universities in Turkey. Thedata were collected through six open-ended questions inwhich the participants were asked to provide writtenanswers. The main findings pointed at three themes fordiscussion: perceptions of pragmatic assessment andits contributions to foreign language education, thechallenges as well as the scope and ways of pragmaticassessment. The participants generally appreciated thecontributory nature of pragmatic assessment in theirforeign language development. However, they alsoreferred to some problems negatively influencing the process of pragmatic assessment and hinderingpragmatic development.
