| Abstract | This study, examines two well-known writingpedagogies from the fields of Composition andRhetoric, and Second Language Acquisition (SLA) forteaching literacy, or reading and writing skills1 inorder to identify intersections for the English LanguageLearner (ELL) in an EFL learning environment. Inaddition, I present both quantitative and qualitativedata in order to identify the learning strategies that aremost effective from the Native Speaker (NS), English asa Second Language (ESL), and the English as aForeign Language (EFL) learning environments. Thedata is as follows: 1) a survey of the perceptions ofboth ELL and NS students to analyze their assessmentof current instructional methods and learningstrategies; 2) an observation of and interview with anELL student examining the strategy and process forproducing effective writing; and 3) analysis of severalwriting samples from ELL students in EFL writingcourses here in Thailand. The purpose of this examination is to identify where the two pedagogiesintersect and identify the best learning strategies forthe EFL learning environment in order to improve theacquisition of English writing skills. |
