| Abstract | This paper explores factors contributing to thewillingness to communicate (WTC) in English as a foreignlanguage (L2) in a Thai university setting. The study usesmultiple methods within a qualitative research approach.Data were collected through interviews, stimulated recall,and classroom observations. Relevant contextually-relatedvariables that emerged from the analyses were categorizedinto four dimensions: social- psychological context,classroom context, cultural context, and social- individualcontext. The findings revealed the overlapping nature offactors in all dimensions, which reflects the complexinteractions among contextually dependent WTC variableswithin the language classroom. This paper contributes tothe knowledge of WTC in a second language (L2) from aqualitative perspective. |
