Abstract This is a semester-long experimental study aimed atinvestigating the effects of a PBL (Problem-based Learning)approach on the English oral language performances ofEnglish major students in one of the private universities inBangkok. For the purpose of the study, a systematic PBLmodel for English language classrooms was implemented.Furthermore, the subjects' opinions towards learning with thePBL approach were also explored through the use ofquestionnaires and interviews. The findings showed that themean scores of the posttest were significantly higher thanthose of the pretest. Their English oral performances weremore fluent and accurate. Moreover, they used varied sentencestructures in addition to simple sentences. Additionally, thesubjects' opinions towards learning with the PBL approachwere discussed.
