Abstract The Jullien's golden carp (Probarbus jullieni Sauvage, 1880) is an economically significant yet endangered fish species native to the Lower Mekong Basin (LMB). Currently, the nursing of juvenile P. jullieni faces challenges including low survival rates, slow growth, and high production costs. Biofloc technology (BFT) is an innovative approach that enhances aquaculture efficiency, reduces environmental impact, and lowers operational expenses. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the BFT system for nursing P. jullieni to support both commercial aquaculture development and conservation in the LMB. The experiment was divided into two parts: investigating the effects of different feeding rates (3%, 6%, 9%, and 12% of body weight/day) and analyzing various stocking densities (25, 50, 75, and 100 fish/m³) over an eight-week period. Evaluated parameters included growth performance, water quality, and economic return (ROI). The results indicated that feeding at 12% body weight/day resulted in the highest weight gain (WG), specific growth rate (SGR), average daily gain (ADG) and yield; while the stocking density of 100 fish/m³ provided the highest survival rate (SR) as 91.67±1.44%, yield as 402.35±109.65 g/m3, Net profit (NP) as 143.95 bath and a positive ROI as 15.06%; being the only treatment to achieve a positive net profit. The BFT system successfully maintained suitable water quality throughout the trial. These findings contribute directly to SDG 14 (life below water) and SDG 2 (zero hunger) by providing evidence-based guidance for sustainable aquaculture of an endangered aquatic species in the lower Mekong Basin.
