Abstract The storage of hemp seeds for genetic conservation frequently leads to low and non-uniform germination. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effects of halopriming with calcium chloride (CaCl2) solution on enhancing germination and shortening germination time. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design (CRD) with six treatments: non-primed seeds (control), seeds primed with reverse osmosis (RO) water, and seeds primed with CaCl2 solutions at concentrations of 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, and 1.00%. All treatments were incubated at 20°C for 24 hours, after which the seed moisture content was reduced to the initial level of 9.0%. The recorded parameters included radicle emergence (%), germination (%), time to reach 50% radicle emergence (days), time to reach 50% germination (days), and mean germination time (days). The results showed that seed priming treatments had no significant effect on radicle emergence or germination percentage. However, hydroprimed seeds reached 50% radicle emergence in the shortest time. Additionally, priming with RO water and 0.75% CaCl2 solution resulted in the fastest time to reach 50% germination and the shortest mean germination time. Therefore, halopriming with 0.75% CaCl2 solution was considered the most effective treatment, as the seeds tended to exhibit higher germination and developed into normal seedlings faster and more uniformly than non-primed seeds.
