| Abstract | This study aimed to investigate the genotypic patterns of the cGH, IGF-I, PRL, and VIPR-1 genes and their association with body weight, average daily gain, breast circumference and breast width in 511 Khaw Khum Koon chickens. Genetic variation of the cGH, IGF-I, and VIPR-1 genes was analyzed using the PCR-RFLP, and PRL using AS-PCR technique, the association analysis was conducted using the Proc GLM procedure. The results showed the genotype frequencies of the cGH gene were 0.098 (AA), (0.528) AG, (0.378) GG, for the IGF-I gene (0.235) AA, (0.485) AC, (0.280) CC, for the VIPR-1 gene (0.229) CC, (0.148) CT, (0.623) TT, for the PRL gene (0.008) II, (0.104) ID, (0.888). Association analysis revealed significant relationships (P<0.05) between the genotypes of cGH, IGF-I, and PRL genes and growth traits in Khaw Khum Koon chickens. For the cGH gene, chickens with the AA genotype had the highest birth weight (39.51 ± 0.85 g), compared to AG (39.02 ± 0.69 g) and GG (37.90 ± 0.71 g). For the IGF-I gene, chickens with the AC genotype had the highest average body weight, breast circumference, and average daily gain at 10 weeks (1,843.46 ± 40.02 g, 28.93 ± 0.42 cm, and 25.62 ± 0.34 g), compared to AA (1,814.42 ± 44.26 g, 28.31 ± 0.47 cm, and 25.28 ± 0.42 g) and CC (1,748.52 ± 43.17 g, 28.31 ± 0.46 cm, and 24.32 ± 0.38 g). For the PRL gene, chickens with the ID genotype had the highest average body weights at 6 and 8 weeks (966.71 ± 40.32 g and 1,537.79 ± 56.86 g), compared to the DD genotype (825.41 ± 16.48 g and 1,388.15 ± 23.25 g). However, no significant association (P>0.05) was found between the genotypes of the VIPR-1 gene and growth traits in Khaw Khum Koon chickens. This study suggests that the cGH and IGF-I genes may play important roles in growth traits, and their genotypes have potential as genetic markers for improving growth performance in Khaw Khum Koon chickens. |
