| Abstract | This study evaluated the optimal dietary supplementation level of Arthrospira platensis (AP) for enhancing growth performance and ovarian development in female lanchester’s freshwater prawn broodstock, Macrobrachium lanchesteri. A completely randomized design (CRD) was applied with 4 diets containing 0, 3, 5, and 7 percent of AP supplementation (T1–T4), each with 3 replicates. Broodstock were reared in water 50 liters/tank at a density of 100 individuals/tank and fed twice daily at 3% of body weight for 49 days. Growth performance was significantly influenced by dietary supplementation. The 7% AP treatment (T4) resulted in the highest weight gain (12.46±0.32%), average daily gain (2.14±0.15 mg/day), specific growth rate (0.39±0.04%/day), and the most efficient feed conversion ratio (1.02±0.12) compared to the other treatments (P<0.05). However, no significant differences were observed in body length or survival rate among treatments. Reproductive parameters were also improved with supplementation. The 7% AP treatment (T4) produced the highest gonadosomatic index (GSI) (10.63±1.75%) and the greatest proportion of broodstock at advanced ovarian stages (S3 and S4) (P<0.01). Eggs from this group were oval–shaped and had the largest dimensions (0.36±0.08 × 0.27±0.06 mm), indicating enhanced egg quality. Meanwhile, the 5% AP treatment (T3) produced the highest condition factor (K) and the smallest size at first maturity (Lm) (2.98±0.01 cm). The highest fecundity was also observed in the 7% AP treatment (T4), with an average of 184.40±45.00 eggs/female, with a positive relationship between body length and fecundity. In terms of production economics, production cost showed a negative relationship with the return on investment (ROI) as the level of AP supplementation increased (R² = 0.9880). The 7% AP treatment (T4) had the highest production cost (209.14±1.55 THB/kg), while the control group (T1) had the lowest cost and generated the highest net profit (112.59±6.25 THB/kg) and ROI when sold at 375 THB/kg. In conclusion, dietary supplementation with AP at 7% is optimal for enhancing growth, ovarian development, and egg quality in M. lanchesteri, while 5% AP treatment is more suitable for promoting early maturation and broodstock management. However, production cost management remains a critical factor influencing economic viability. Therefore, the appropriate supplementation level should be selected based on the specific objectives of broodstock production. |
