Abstract This academic paper analyzes recent research findings which reveal some non-linguistic benefits children acquire by learning a second language. And, it is argued that such benefits not only benefit children and their families, but contribute to the social wellbeing of communities and nations. The analyses reveal that the topic 'Non-linguistic benefits' have already been covered in the opinion sections of some leading international media, including The New York Times, The Atlantic, The New Yorker, and The BBC. The titles under 'Non-linguistic benefits' were various and designed to attract a broad range of readers. The purpose of the paper is to share relevant findings on this subject with teachers of second languages, parents, and educational policy advisors.
