| Abstract | Eu3+ doped tellurite glasses samples (55-x)TeO2-10ZnF2-35BaO-xEu2O3 (where x = 0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 mol%) wereprepared. Their physical and optical properties were studied through absorption, luminescence and decay time measurements. An intense red luminescence was observed due to 5D0!7F2 transition of Eu3+ ion in these glasses that were studied. Theoptical spectra of glasses showed two discrete absorption bands at 2074 nm and 2207 nm. These were thought to be due tothe transitions of 7F0!7F6 and 7F1!7F6 respectively. The emission spectra were observed and assigned to 578, 591, 612, 652and 700 nm by excitation at 465 nm. The emission intensity of Eu3+ increased with increasing concentration of Eu2O3. Theexperimental lifetime of the 5D0 level was found to be single exponential for all the glass samples that were studied. The resultsthat were obtained are discussed and reported in this paper. |
